Romance scammer caught on CTTC web
Cybercrime investigation department of CTTC has arrested a romance scammer named Riazul Islam on specific charges. During the arrest, a smartphone and a button phone used for cash out, 4 Nagad and bKash account SIMs were seized from Riyazul.
According to CTTC sources, this young scammer created fake flirtatious profiles on Facebook, targeting single women first as a love trap, then as a lure for marriage and taking them to America with their families. More than 50 victims were traced to the smartphone seized from him at the time of his arrest. The arrested Riazul gave a confessional statement under section 164 in the court.
On Wednesday (May 1), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of DMP Media and Public Relations Department Md. Farooq Hossain said that a single mother had lost Tk 70,000 after admitting Riazul's fraud and blackmail and filed a case at Mohammadpur police station on April 25. Riazul was arrested from Narayanganj by investigating the shadow of that case through technical analysis. Arrested Riazul Islam created a Facebook account under the name of Niloy Chowdhury Neel and used to deceive in the identity of the marketing manager of an organization in Singapore.
He said, Riazul would regularly post pictures and videos from another Singapore expatriate's Facebook profile to make the Facebook profile look credible. Fraudster Riazul used to target single women on various Facebook groups and pages by contacting them on Messenger, first as a love trap, then as a lure for marriage and dreams of taking them to Singapore with their families. He used to blackmail the victim by taking intimate pictures and videos during an online courtship phase and then making them viral and accepting money on bKash numbers registered with a fake NID.
